Seamless Gutters, Fascia, and Trim in Falls Church, VA

Seamless gutters are formed from a single continuous coil on site and cut to the exact length of your roofline, so the only joints are at the corners and the downspouts. Sectional gutters are joined every ten feet, and every one of those joints is somewhere a seal can fail. Fewer seams is the whole point: seams are where gutters leak. Because the run is cut on your driveway that morning, most homes are a single day.

It's priced by the linear foot of roofline, adjusted for the number of stories, the number of corners and downspouts, and the material and gauge you choose. A two-story house with a complicated roofline costs more per foot than a rambler, because the staging is the work. We measure the roofline and give you the number in writing.

It's set by the roof area draining into them, the pitch, and the rainfall intensity here, not by what was on the house before. Five inch is standard on most DMV homes, and larger roof areas or steep pitches need six inch to keep up. Undersized gutters overflow in exactly the storm you need them for, which is why we size against the roof rather than replace like for like.

It's the right time if the gutters are near the end of their life, because the drip edge, the flashing, and the gutter all meet at the same edge. Doing them together means that edge is built once, by one crew, and nobody is working around anyone else's new work. If your gutters are sound, we'll say so and leave them.

Yes. Leaf protection goes on with a new gutter run, and it is the right time to do it: guards fit and seal properly on a system that was sized and hung as one job, which is not always true when they are retrofitted onto somebody else's gutters years later. What we don't do is repair an existing run, and we'd rather tell you that here than at the kitchen table.

Fascia is the vertical board running along the edge of the roof, the one your gutters are fastened to. Soffit is the horizontal underside between that board and the wall, the part you see when you stand under the eave and look up. Fascia carries the gutter. Soffit is where the attic takes air in.

Gutters pulling away from the house is the most common sign, because the fasteners are holding into wood that has gone soft. Peeling paint that keeps coming back, dark staining along the roof edge, and visible gaps between the gutter and the board are the others. Press it: sound fascia is firm, rotted fascia gives.

Because vented soffit is the intake half of your attic ventilation, and without it the exhaust at the ridge has nothing to pull. Solid soffit, soffit painted shut, or soffit buried behind insulation all stop air entering at the eave, and an attic that can't take air in cooks the shingles from underneath and rots the deck. It can be, and it's one of the most commonly missed parts of a claim. Wind that lifts shingles also tears at trim, and hail that bruises a roof marks aluminum fascia and soffit too. Most homeowners leave that money on the table because their roofer only looked up. We document the whole exterior on one claim.

Gutters are installation only, and trim we take alongside a roof, gutter, or siding job. Both come down to the same thing: we'd rather tell you on the phone than after a visit. If your gutters are leaking at the seams, sagging, or pulling away from the fascia, we'll say honestly whether that's a repair somebody else should do or a run that has reached the end of its life. And if the board behind them is soft, that comes off with the gutters, because taking a gutter down twice makes no sense.

Because a roof sheds thousands of gallons a year and gutters decide where it lands. Water that leaves the roof and pools at the base of the wall goes into the basement and under the footing, and the DMV's clay soils move when they get wet. Gutters are the cheapest foundation work you'll ever buy, and downspout extension is most of what makes them work.
